Plot Summary: Sam loves learning and watching about space. On his class field trip the Ralph challenges him that he is too scared to go into an adult ride. When Sam is in there the class finds out he is scarred. Sam is off to prove that he is not scared. 3. Characters: Sam is written as a dynamic character. He changes as the story line continues by wanting to prove he is not a scaredy-cat. Facing his fears make him stronger and bond with his pet snake. While doing this he must follow his culture that his family continues to instill in their household. 4. Setting: The setting is in any community. The main specific place is Sam’s house. Plot Summary: A boy who was born in American finds it difficult to fit in and accept himself. He befriends Wei-Chen and they try and learn to be who they really are. Jin is so unhappy that his alter ego Danny comes forth into this story. Another part of the story is the Monkey King. He must also learn self-acceptance. 3. Characters: Jin is the antagonist of the story. He is insecure about who he really is, and where he comes from. Danny is Jin just as his alter ego. He is confident, and accepts himself. Chin-kee is a stereotype character. He symbolizes all of Jin’s uncertainties about his culture. Plot Summary: Having a hard time connecting to one another this grandfather and grandson, soon find a common ground. Combining two worlds into one, so they discover a bond that others cannot understand. 3. Characters: Grandfather is a dynamic character in the story. With his way of drawing he can relate to his grandson on a different level. This supports the two worlds coming together. The grandson is the protagonist in the story. He is continually exhibiting the contrary of older Asian generation’s culture. 4. Setting: The setting is at the grandfather’s house. There are several examples that compare and contrast the older Asian generation’s culture versus the younger Asian generation. Plot Summary: Early one morning a father wakes his son to go fishing. As they spend time fishing, the father talks about the other pond in Vietnam that he once fished at. After they catch a fish the father leaves to go to his second job. Later that evening they whole family enjoys a meal from the catch they made that day. 3. Characters: The boy tells this story in first person and uses similes to describe his father, “but to me his English sounds like gentle rain”. This helps develop his characters as a gentle soul. The father is a static character that shows who his real character is throughout the story. He is also written as a stereotyped character with his broken English, and hardworking mentality by working two jobs to support his family. 4.
